In order to use access your cable system’s DOCSIS network via the 860 DSPi&'s internal cable modem, you must configure the operating parameters of your instrument. In setting up the 860 DSPi's modem, you can take advantage of the DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0 Cable Modem Statistics, Cable Modem Throughput, Ping, and Trace Route modes of your instrument. These configuration parameters can be set up using the 860 DSPi's CM/CPE settings, or via the WorkBench software.

Assigning a MAC Address to the 860 DSPi’s Internal Cable Modem
To access the cable system's DOCSIS network via the 860 DSPi's cable modem, you may need to use the MAC address of a modem that had previously been provisioned on the network. This can be done by either provisioning the MAC address on the 860 DSPi's internal cable modem on the network, or by spoofing an existing cable modem’s MAC address using the 860 DSPi (spoofing is not permitted in a BPI+ environment).
For more information on spoofing an external cable modem, refer to the 860 DSPi operation manual, Section IV: Setup Functions, Chapter 2: Instrument Setup Mode, CM/CPE Settings, Internal Cable Modem MAC Address, Spoofing an External Cable Modem.

Provisioning the 860 DSPi's Internal Cable Modem
To use the MAC address of your 860 DSPi's internal cable modem to connect to the cable system DOCSIS network, use the LEFT/RIGHT buttons to highlight the fields below 860 CPE MAC, and use the ENTER button and/or the UP/DOWN buttons to change the setting to Use CM MAC#1, Use CM MAC#2, or CM MAC Prompt.
Choosing Use CM MAC#1 or Use CM MAC#2 will allow you to use the MAC address of internal cable modem number 1 or 2 exclusively to connect to the network.
If you select CM MAC Prompt, the Select CM MAC to Use window will appear when the 860 DSPi is asked to logon to the network using the internal cable modem.
To select which internal cable modem MAC address to use, use the UP/DOWN buttons to select the MAC#1 or MAC#2 button, and then press the ENTER button.
